CULTURAL WING

The Strength of any organization lies in its spiritual and ethical culture. It is culture that make strong individuals with character. Appropriate character is the storehouse of truth, honesty, courage, moral strength, punctuality, self-control and other virtues. Cultural wing was formed with the objective of restoring the finer values and ennoblement of the social and individual life in the light of Sree Narayana Guru’s holistic perspective and unity philosophy. For the SNMS has undertaken various initiatives over the years which started with arranging seminars and discourses across various units.

Our cultural activities are mainly based on the ideals of Sree Narayana Guru. And Guru’s ideals are based on ‘Dharma’. All the lawful, rightful social and honest activities which are performed for honest living come under the category of Dharma. And therefore our activities are meant for enhancing the quality of life, moulding the character, uplifting the mental and normal strength of man, making him understand how to live in the present world fully conscious, virtuous and upright. We are trying to inculcate Guru’s World view, oneness of human race, basic unity among religions, omnipotence, omnipresence and omniscience of one God, among the people by organizing classes, seminars etc. More than a dozen members actively involve in teaching the classes and presentations in seminars.

We also conduct programmes for the overall development of children thereby making strong individuals with character. Cultural Wing takes initiative in bringing out literature on Guru’s teachings. We have also published books on life and teachings of Sree Narayana Guru in Hindi, Marathi and English. At a time when the world is reeling under the weight of corruption, communal clashes, moral and cultural decadence the responsibility of any socio-cultural and spiritual organization should be to stir up and reassert the spirit and holistic perspective of a noble human order. By forming the cultural wing SNMS has been striving to work for the same. Cultural wing has undertaken the task of restoring the finer values, ennoblement of the social and individual life; raising the moral and individual status of fellow human beings in the light of Sree Narayana Guru’s holistic perspective and unitive philosophy.

All religions conference was held on 02.10.2002 (Gandhi Jayanti day) at Gurudevagiri, Nerul. Religious scholars from seven religions Viz. Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, Christianity, Zorastrianism, Jainism, and Sikhism participated in the conference. Muni Narayana Prasad representing Sree Narayana Philosophy also participated in the conference. The scholars presented papers about their respective religions and their contributions towards religious harmony. It was a great success. More than 2000 people from various religions attended the conference. People were accommodated in three floors of the Gurudevagiri complex building by providing closed circuit TV and big screens to view the speakers and the proceedings in the conference. The speeches made by the scholars were compiled and released as a book to remain as a document in the history of the Samiti.By bringing together the intellectuals from different religious groups under one roof and providing them with a platform to share their wisdom. We had made an effort to bring out the essence of every religion which would help us enhance our vision and broaden our horizons and break all barriers that divide people.

We have been arranging discourses on Sree Narayana philosophy on every Chadayam day of every month across various units to increase and enhance the understanding of Sree Narayana philosophy among the members. We believe that the character formation begins at an early age. Values and wisdom need to be imparted during this stage of life. Keeping this in mind we have been setting up various camps for children to inculcate the values and philosophy of Sree Narayana Guru with the sole objective of molding the young minds. Also discourses by various eminent personalities are being arranged to propagate Sree Narayana philosophy. We have also been publishing various books based on the life and teaching of Sree Narayana Guru. SNMS has been publishing a magazine Guru Ratnam on a quarterly basis which is indented to spread Guru;s teachings by providing a platform for talented writers, aspiring writers, poets and intellectuals .

Cultural wing organized during the period from 08.11.2002 to 28.11.2002 classes on Atmopadesa Satakam by Swami Bodhi Teertha of Narayana Gurukulam at Gurudevagiri. This was a mile stone in the history of Sree Narayana Mandira Samiti with regard to its activities on the studies and discussions on Sree Narayana Guru Philosophy.

One of the major tasks undertaken by cultural wing was to spread the message of Guru beyond the racial barriers by arranging conferences with the active participation of eminent personalities like Ashish Nandy , Dr U R Ananda Murthy , Louis lipner (Cambridge university) Vinay lal, Sunder Sarukai (Manipal University), Robi Rajan etc. First conference was held in December 2010 in Srilanka followed by a conference in Cochin in 2011, later in Varkala in 2012 and in Cochi in 2013. We envision this ongoing process to result in the opening up of a new era in the history of Sree Narayana movement all over the world.

The emergence of much original thinking during GCC 2010 led the speakers and the organizers to feel that it would be ideal to take forward these discussions to publish a book on the hitherto unanalysed relationship between Metaphysics and Politics which had acted as a powerful prime mover of Guru’s vision. The Guru had gone beyond the categories of post-Enlightenment modernity and could anticipate the truth beyond the visible Newtonian world and created a body of philosophy which is valid both within the physical dimensions and in the metaphysical plane. In this sense , the Guru had gone beyond Albert Einstein who had broken the paradigms of Euclidean space but was hesitant to consider the uncertainties of quantum physics. Guru, not being hobbled by the artificial separation of the physical from the metaphysical, could mine the truths of human condition in all its political, social and psychological dimensions. Guru accessed an Eastern Reason from the original texts ; renewed its fundamentals by Buddha-like deep meditative examination and made it available to the people in 20th century idioms.
